Introduction

The meaning of name Pahalgam literally means ‘a village of shepherds’. Its pristine beauty and scenic locations present numerous options to explore nature as well as yourself. Pahalgam is a picturesque town located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The proximity is set on the banks of River Lidder at an altitude of 7200 feet. It is a decent place dotted with towering fir-covered mountains. A highly touristfriendly destination now, Pahalgam was once a humble shepherd’s village, owing to its epithet, the Valley of Shepherds Pahalgam has a religious significance as well. It is host to the famous Amarnath Yatra, the annual Hindu pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Lord Shiva, known as Amarnath Gufa. Every year in the month of July, millions of devotees throng this place to start their pilgrimage to the famous shrine.

How to reach Pahalgam?

Let me first talk about how to reach Pahalgam by different modes of transport. If you were coming from a place like Delhi, Mumbai, or Hyderabad, then you will first have to get to Srinagar. Once you have arrived in Srinagar, the only way to reach Pahalgam is by road. There is a helicopter service available as well but it is mostly during the time of Amarnath Yatra only.
